DBT Therapy in Thailand

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is one of the most effective treatments for emotional dysregulation, borderline personality disorder (BPD), and co-occurring mental health conditions. It teaches practical skills you can use immediately to manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and build a life worth living.

The Dawn Rehab in Thailand, located in Chiang Mai, integrates residential DBT treatment into its Treatment Roadmap as part of a comprehensive, personalised approach. Our residential setting takes you far from the triggers and stressors of your home environment, including the relationships, pressures, and situations that activate intense emotions, and gives you space to focus entirely on learning and practising these skills. Rather than offering DBT in isolation, we combine it with individual therapy, trauma processing when needed, and wellness practices, so the skills become second nature before you return to daily life.

What Conditions Does DBT Treat?

DBT was originally developed for borderline personality disorder and remains the gold standard treatment for BPD. However, research has shown it is effective for a wide range of conditions involving emotional dysregulation.

At The Dawn, we use DBT to help clients with:

  • Borderline personality disorder (BPD)
  • Emotional dysregulation and mood instability
  • Self-harm behaviours and suicidal ideation
  • Anxiety and depression with emotional intensity
  • Substance use disorders (particularly when emotions drive use)
  • Eating disorders
  • Relationship difficulties and interpersonal conflict

What Is DBT Therapy in Thailand and How Does It Work?

DBT combines cognitive-behavioural techniques with mindfulness practices. The “dialectical” approach means holding two things as true at once: accepting yourself as you are and working to change. This balance of acceptance and change is central to DBT.

Unlike traditional talk therapy that focuses primarily on insight, DBT is skills-based. You will learn specific techniques and practise them until they become second nature.

The Four Core Skills of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

  1. Mindfulness – The foundation of DBT. Learning to be present in the moment without judgment, observing your thoughts and feelings without being controlled by them.
  2. Distress Tolerance – Skills for surviving crisis moments without making things worse. These help you get through intense emotions without resorting to harmful behaviours.
  3. Emotion Regulation – Understanding your emotions, reducing vulnerability to negative emotions, and increasing positive experiences.
  4. Interpersonal Effectiveness – Communicating your needs, setting boundaries, and maintaining self-respect in relationships.

What to Expect During Residential DBT Treatment

The DBT programme at The Dawn includes both individual and group components, as research shows this combination produces the best outcomes.

  • Individual therapy – Weekly one-on-one sessions with your therapist to work on personal goals, address behaviours, and apply DBT skills to your specific situation.
  • Group skills training – Structured sessions where you learn and practise the four core DBT skills alongside others. The group setting provides opportunities to practise interpersonal skills in real time.
  • Skills coaching – Support between sessions to help you apply what you are learning in real-life situations.

Sessions focus on building skills progressively. Your therapist will help you identify which skills are most relevant to your situation and practise applying them to real challenges you face.

“In the beginning, using DBT skills feels awkward and forced. But with practice, they become your default response. Clients often tell me months later that they handled a crisis without even realising they were using the skills.”

How Long Is a Residential DBT Programme?

DBT is designed as a longer-term treatment because lasting change takes time and practice. The skills need to be learned, practised, and reinforced until they become automatic responses.

At The Dawn, we recommend:

  • A minimum 4-week stay to learn the foundational skills
  • 8 to 12 weeks for more comprehensive DBT treatment
  • Individual and group sessions multiple times per week

Many clients continue practising DBT skills after leaving residential treatment. You will leave with a clear understanding of the skills and how to apply them independently.

Why Choose a Residential DBT Retreat in Chiang Mai, Thailand

DBT can be done on an outpatient basis, so why consider a residential DBT program?

Learning to manage intense emotions is difficult when you are surrounded by the same triggers and stressors that contributed to your struggles. DBT requires consistent practice, and that practice is harder when you are trying to apply new skills while managing work, relationships, and the daily pressures of your regular environment. A DBT treatment centre removes that pressure, because the skills learned in each session are practised throughout the day with trained staff available to help.

At The Dawn, we provide:

  • Real-time skills practice – In residential treatment, you are not just learning DBT in a weekly session and then returning to old patterns. You practise skills throughout the day in a supportive community.
  • Immersive learning environment – DBT teaches communication and relationship skills, but these are difficult to practise alone. Our community provides  opportunities to set boundaries, navigate conflict, and build healthier relationship patterns.
  • 24-hour support – Trained staff available whenever intense emotions arise, helping you apply your skills in the moment.
  • Complementary therapies – Mindfulness meditation, yoga, and wellness activities that reinforce DBT’s core principles.
  • Peer community – Others going through similar challenges, providing real-world opportunities to practise interpersonal effectiveness skills.

I have to say the treatment I received in the Dawn for childhood trauma, adhd and mild depression was excellent, they go above and beyond to make sure you get the best treatment. I came in here on 2% battery and leaving at 80%. But the best thing is I’ve got the tools and support to get me to 100% when I get home . The facilities are awesome from the grounds to the gym and the rooms are amazing. The chefs , the cleaners and support team are just amazing couldn’t ask for anything better . I am definitely recommending the Dawn to anyone that is feeling not right and need help The Dawn is the place to be to receive the help you need I would highly recommend And if I could give a 50 star review I would 😁

**5/5 Stars — One of the Best Investments of My Life** I went to The Dawn with absolutely no idea what an addiction rehab would be like or what to expect. It turned out to be far better and more effective than I could have ever imagined. **Pre-Admissions** Daryl and Marcus gave me a detailed walkthrough of what to expect and asked all the right questions, which gave me immense confidence right from the start. While there are millions of businesses out there just to make money, fields like medicine, teaching, and addiction recovery are beyond that. * **Support & Non-Doctor Staff (5.5/5):** Absolutely incredible. They aren't just handling logistics; they act like family or close friends. They take care of everything and are always there if you need to talk, share, or ask for help. Special shoutouts to Merry and AJ Abdullah! * **Therapists (5/5):** Fortunate to work with Ken and Jayvee, who are both amazing. Jayvee helped me understand key concepts one-on-one and gave me practical solutions for my thoughts and struggles. Ken's psychoeducational group sessions blew my mind—he truly knows this field inside and out. Raymond was also fantastic, incredibly patient, and knowledgeable. * **Facilities (4/5):** Above average. Luxury is subjective (what one person calls amazing, another might not), but I found it comfortable and solid. * **Food (3.5/5):** Good, but room for minor tweaks. **The Standout Highlight: Peer Support** What I didn't see coming was how powerful the peer community would be. Seeing people struggling with similar challenges—substance, behavioral, trauma, and mental health—supporting each other created an immediate sense of family. That comfort and shared understanding was the absolute highlight of my stay. **One Area for Improvement** For clients dealing with process/tech addictions (online gambling, crypto trading, social media, shopping, or adult content), there needs to be tighter device control. Paying $20k–$25k a month, I’d expect them to either block problematic websites on client devices (similar to restricting alcohol/substances) or provide managed devices pre-loaded only with essential apps like WhatsApp, email, and music. **Final Verdict** An amazing place that genuinely cares. They even let me stay two extra days free of charge because I mistakenly booked the wrong return flight—proof that it’s not just about the money for them. Huge thanks to Ken, Jayvee, Raymond, AJ Abdullah, Jack, Merry, and the entire support team!

I had a beautiful experience at this facility. The staff were all so kind and eager to assist with your needs. The buildings, rooms, and apartments themselves were all well kept and conducive to calm living. The grounds were beautiful and well-landscaped. The services and amenities provided are top-tier. More specifically, I visited the wellness center here and was able to participate in the sound bath. What an amazingly relaxing AND rejuvenating experience. I’d be happy come back for wellness experiences like this.

I recently visited this wellness center and had a wonderful experience. The lady who gave us the tour was amazing—friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the center. She made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The facilities and buildings are absolutely beautiful, with a peaceful atmosphere that helps you relax right away. Everything is well maintained and thoughtfully designed. I also had my very first sound bowl healing experience, and it was fantastic. It was both relaxing and enjoyable, and I'm very glad I had the opportunity to try it. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for wellness, relaxation, and a beautiful environment.

The team specially- mitch, jack, Nora, marie, AJ, tai, mai, yaa, kaan and all the other people i have forgotten to mention were brilliant in there work. There nursing team is very good to and make sure u are comfortable and getting your meds on time specially- boy and dr zaw. The food has been fantastic also just that it lacked a bit of variety on a few days other than that exceptional. The gym, massages, therapies, pool were the highlight. There hk team is very prompt and goes above and beyond to provide you comfortable and clean rooms, could add a evening turn down service for the price they are charging, overall superb brilliant exceptional experience. Thank you the dawn for make me into who i am today.

I had the pleasure of visiting The Dawn today for a tour, and I was genuinely so impressed with everything they have to offer. The facilities are beautiful, peaceful and thoughtfully designed, with such a great range of activities and experiences available for guests. We also had the opportunity to take part in a sound bath healing session, which was honestly wonderful. It was incredibly relaxing, and I could really feel the benefits afterwards. It was such a lovely way to slow down, switch off and completely unwind. The whole experience left me feeling calm, refreshed and very impressed with The Dawn. From what I saw today, it seems like a truly supportive and welcoming environment for people working through addiction or mental health challenges, with a real focus on healing, wellbeing and recovery. I would highly recommend The Dawn to anyone looking for professional support in a peaceful and caring setting.

If you feel like your life has fallen apart and you can’t see a way out, I’ve been there too. My work, relationships, and mental health collapsed all at once, and I fell into severe depression, crying every day, isolating myself, and feeling completely lost. In that desperation I searched for a way out. That’s when I started looking online and calling different places and eventually found The Dawn Thailand in Chiang Mai. The first time on the phone call, I spent more than an hour crying while sharing what was happening to me. Instead of judgment, I was met with deep understanding. I received a space that held my tears and gave me something I hadn’t felt in a long time, here is a safe place to say, “I’m not okay”. During almost two months in the Wellness Enhancement & Rehab Program, the experienced therapists and team designed a treatment plan that truly fit who I am and helped me untangle the knots in my life carefully. For safety reasons, there are the support team & the nurse on duty at all times. The Dawn could be a refuge - a trusted place, a gentle shaded road where the environment itself. No need to run, walk more slowly & strongly. My mental state improving step by step and my mind grows lighter. If you’re reading my life journey and searching for a way out. The Dawn Thailand became a safe home for me >> a place I could trust when everything else felt overwhelming. It might become that place for you too. You’re not alone !

I can say without a shadow of a doubt that selling my car to fund my time at The Dawn was the absolute best decision of my entire life. Healing is rarely ever supposed to be comfortable. In a community setting like this, you will run into every type of personality that exists in the outside world, often in its most extreme form. Other clients will complain, and the process will feel incredibly challenging at times. But there is a profound, undeniable healing that happens through authentic connection. Here, I learned to get used to discomfort, to finally speak aloud the things heavily tied to guilt, shame, anxiety, and fear. I learned that it is okay to say the wrong thing, and that true growth happens when you allow yourself to drop the mask and be seen. The staff and doctors here are elite professionals who intimately understand the mechanics of trauma: Robert, my focus therapist, is genuinely the best therapist I have ever had in my entire life. Helen, the clinical director, proved to be not only an exceptionally skilled practitioner in the healing process during our brief talks, but also an avid, inspiring leader. The entire staff, from the nurses to the support team, is incredibly polite, compassionate, and professional. In two months, I did not encounter a single person who showed attitude or didn't want to be here. I chose the Viva package (off-site residence) for two months, though due to renovations, I spent the first six weeks on-site. While the Viva accommodations are perfectly good enough to get the job done, staying on-site is incredibly useful because it gives you immediate access to professional help, nurses, and medications at odd hours of the night. Furthermore, being on-site allowed me to utilize the amenities, like the gym and the piano, for an extra two hours a day, which is surprisingly worth it. Every single aspect of the programming is intentionally tailored toward mental health and nervous system regulation. The activities, including TRE (Trauma Releasing Exercises), sound healing, massage, yoga, and Muay Thai kickboxing, are purposeful. Even the food is scientifically part of the narrative. Having studied nutrition for mood stability myself, I immediately noticed the intentional inclusion of beets, pumpkin seeds, and dried apricots. Furthermore, when the intense "cycle" of processing trauma triggered massive cravings for carbohydrates and chocolate, I was incredibly grateful that the dining room always had cookies and snacks on hand, and that the store had plenty of treats to help. If you are considering coming here for trauma, I HIGHLY recommend booking 56 days over 28. That extension grants you access to the specialized trauma group. You absolutely need those first 28 days in the regular groups just to stabilize, understand the process, and learn how the community works before diving into the deepest layers of your past. I thought I learned everything I needed until I entered the second group, and I couldn't believe how much deeper the path of connection and acceptance could go. It may not feel comfortable every day, but please trust that this place knows exactly what they are doing. I am leaving with a sense of groundedness I didn't think was possible, and I cannot wait to see where life takes me from here. — Joseph

Had the opportunity to visit The Dawn for the first time and learn more about its rehabilitation program—a place where people come to heal, reflect, and recover from various traumatic experiences. What struck me most was the atmosphere. Nestled among the natural beauty of Chiang Mai, The Dawn feels more like a sanctuary than a treatment center. Peaceful, serene, and thoughtfully designed, it offers an environment where anyone seeking recovery can truly focus on finding their path toward healing and renewal.

This was my second experience of residential treatment. I arrived with an understanding of what therapeutic work involved, but not what this specific process would ask of me. I planned to stay four to six weeks. I stayed several months. I arrived at The Dawn numb and in a state of near emotional paralysis. A few years of recovery under my belt, yet more disconnected from myself than ever. The setting itself is inherently healing: beautiful grounds, comfortable accommodation, and a holistic programme that attends to the whole person. It is a genuinely good place to do hard work. It's worth noting that The Dawn isn't only for people in early recovery. I came seeking deeper psychological work, and the facility was fully equipped for that. The therapeutic offering goes well beyond addiction treatment. The work here is serious and substantive. I was able to engage with a range of modalities, including somatic work, held by clinicians who clearly understand that recovery isn't just about the mind. The emphasis on reconnecting with the body, not just processing cognitively, made a profound difference for me. This isn't a facility that offers one-size-fits-all treatment. The team took time to understand what I needed and built something around that. And when I had feedback, it was genuinely listened to and, where appropriate, acted upon. There were moments during my time at The Dawn where I couldn't see a future waiting for me on the other side of the gates. As is often true of any meaningful therapeutic process, things got worse before they got better. And they got better. I leave equipped with the skills to sit in discomfort rather than run from it, to move towards a fulfilling life rather than away from myself, towards a future aligned with my values and one that doesn't require me to contort myself into impossible positions (unless on a yoga mat). After a lifetime of jumping from buoy to buoy, fighting the tides, I seem finally to have learned to swim with rather than against them. I'm not looking for the next goal, but moving in a direction. And much like The Dawn itself, all I have to do is keep showing up. To everyone at The Dawn, thank you for all that you do.

Leaving the Dawn today is such a bittersweet thing. I’ve had the most transformative 2 months here. I called in desperation at the start of the year, having very little faith that I would make a dent in my decades long addiction, but I can honestly say I am leaving here more optimistic than I believed was possible. The staff are so friendly, warm, caring and welcoming from the first moment of contact. If you engage properly with your focal therapist and the classes offered it can truly change your life. If you feel like substance abuse issues have made your life utterly unbearable and pointless, I could not recommend this place more.

Amazing place, specialising in trauma. 11 times in treatment, this has been the best place at treating a range of MH conditions, as well as behavioural disorders. The staff were amazing, the rooms more than comfortable, and we worked hard and i was never bored. EMDR with Alan was a revelation, and i finally feel I’ve started treating the root rather than a symptom, of 30 years of pain. Thank you to you all.

I chose the Dawn after much research looking for rehabs that offered more than the 12 step approach which simply had not worked for me... I chose the Dawn because it offered help with trauma recovery and mental health in general, and because there was a Buddhist approach as well as the 12 steps. I needed more, and this place seemed to have it. As well, the cost was far less than rehabs in Canada; the final deciding factor was my phone interview with Helen- she got it. She was entirely present, compassionate and wise. I felt safe. I spent 2 months at the Dawn from April - May 2025. The short version is that the experience was life-changing. Not only did I get excellent daily care that included body, mind/emotions and spirit, but I finally started working on the trauma I had held all my life. The food was amazing! The locale was beautiful, the gym was awesome and the weekly Thai massages were the best I've ever had. The counsellors and staff were all absolutely professional, knowledgeable, skillfull, present and compassionate. After years of mental health treatments here in Canada and having been to two rehabs before, at the Dawn I got the best mental health and addiction care I have ever had. I am 65 years old, so I'd been struggling with trauma, depression and addiction for a long long time. Not only that, but there is an aftercare program that is for life! I meet with a therapist run group once a week ( they are offered 2X a week to accommodate different time zones) and I meet with other clients in WhatsAp any time I need to. I really can't say enough about the Dawn.

The Dawn has been a really important part of my recovery journey. Going to treatment overseas was a big step for me, but from the moment I arrived I felt welcomed and supported. The staff are compassionate, knowledgeable, and truly care about the people in their program. Every member of the team knows your name and goes out of their way to say hello. Beyond the therapy team, the real glue is the support staff, medical team, cleaning staff, housekeeping, grounds care, and kitchen team. What I appreciated most was the balance of therapy and holistic practices. There are opportunities for meditation, sound healing, yoga, Muay Thai, massage, and fitness sessions - truly a well rounded healing approach. The setting in Chiang Mai is peaceful and beautiful, which really helps create the space to slow down and focus on healing. Recovery isn’t easy work, but The Dawn provides a safe and supportive environment to do that work. I’m very grateful for my time there and for the people who helped support me along the way. It will always be a meaningful part of my journey.

I arrived at The Dawn after a severe mental breakdown. I was unable to regulate my emotions and had developed very unhealthy coping mechanisms over the years. Although I had struggled with my mental health for a long time, I had never truly accepted it or reached out for help before. If you are looking for a compassionate and professional mental health and trauma recovery rehab, I cannot recommend The Dawn highly enough. Before coming to The Dawn, I spent a lot of time researching treatment centres around the world. From my very first contact, the administration team at The Dawn were exceptional. Daryl handled my enquiry from the beginning and made what was an incredibly overwhelming situation feel manageable. He was kind, patient, and supportive, guiding me through the process and helping me feel confident that I was making the right decision. When I arrived at The Dawn, I was extremely overwhelmed. I was a bag of nerves and found it very difficult to communicate with anyone. I was introduced to my therapist, Rob, whose calm and caring nature helped me open up and talk honestly for the first time in my life. He took the time to truly understand me before putting together a treatment plan for my recovery. One thing that makes The Dawn so special is that every programme is tailored to each individual client. Once I was stabilised, Rob began EMDR therapy with me, which helped me regulate my emotions and start to rebalance my nervous system. Rob has truly been a guardian angel to me and I will always be grateful for his patience, support, and belief in me. The entire support team also helped me through some of the darkest moments of my life. AJ and Jack were incredibly supportive throughout my stay, and I will always be thankful for the time and care they gave me. When I arrived, I also had a very unhealthy relationship with food and believed I was the world’s fussiest eater. After working with Tara, the nutritionist, I was able to face my food anxieties and start trying things I had never imagined eating before. The food at The Dawn was exceptional — fresh, delicious, and varied every day. Nissa, the holistic coach, has one of the most compassionate and understanding approaches I have ever encountered. She gently encouraged me while always respecting my limits and helping me reconnect with my body. The medical team at The Dawn were also incredibly caring, especially Nan. They never forced medication and always discussed options with me first, which made me feel respected and safe. The support team also organised some amazing excursions and experiences that I will never forget for the rest of my life. I will be leaving The Dawn a completely different person from the one who arrived. I had lost my sense of identity, but here I have found it again. My life has changed in ways I never thought possible. If you are reading this while struggling and wondering whether to reach out for help, I was in exactly that position not long ago. Coming to The Dawn was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Thank you, Helen, for creating such an incredible place. The Dawn has truly changed my life, and I will always be grateful to you and the amazing team you have built.

The Dawn gave me a sense peace & presence that I didn't think was possible. The therapists work hard to help you realise the roots of issues & I am incredibly grateful for my time here. Like everything, what you put in is what you get out, & I thrived on gaining insight on my mental health through the psycho educational, relapse prevention classes, alongside a 1-1 therapist. (The people it doesn't work for are usually the ones not putting their all in, not attending groups, not focused on making real changes in their everyday lives). The support staff, medical team, & everyone working there give so much to the clients in terms of friendliness, kindest & respect.

Coming to The Dawn for 90 days was the first time I felt truly safe enough to face my trauma rather than just manage the symptoms. The structure, consistency, and depth of the work allowed me to slow down and understand how much my past was shaping my reactions, relationships, and self-worth. What stood out most was that the team didn’t rush me or offer quick fixes—they stayed with me through the difficult parts, helping me build emotional regulation, trust, and healthier coping patterns. By the end of my stay, I didn’t feel “fixed,” but I felt grounded, clearer, and finally equipped with the tools and insight to move forward with my life in a very different way.

My experience at The Dawn Rehab Centre in Chiang Mai has been nothing short of life-changing. When I arrived, I was struggling deeply with addiction and trauma, unsure of who I was or how to move forward. After completing a 12-week bespoke program, I can genuinely say that I feel like a completely different person; grounded, empowered, and truly ready to step back into the real world. A huge part of this transformation is thanks to the incredible people who supported me every step of the way.
My focal therapist, Alan Wood, guided me with compassion, insight, and unwavering care. His approach helped me confront the core of my issues and rebuild myself from a place of understanding rather than shame. I also want to express my gratitude to Helen Wells, the Clinical Director, whose leadership and vision shape the remarkable therapeutic environment at The Dawn. Her presence and expertise were felt throughout the entire program. The support team was equally extraordinary. I want to thank David, Abdulla, Pang, Jack, Top, Bas, Ping, Nora, Mary, Beam, Mun and Linh each of you played a unique role in my healing. Whether it was a conversation, a smile, or guidance during difficult moments, your kindness made all the difference. And to the amazing admissions team, Alex Holland, Marcus, Daryl, and everyone else involved, thank you for making the process smooth, reassuring, and filled with genuine care from the very beginning. The entire staff at The Dawn work together like a family, and during my stay, I truly felt part of that family. The environment, the personalized therapy, the structure, and the warmth of the community created the perfect space for deep healing and growth. I leave The Dawn with clarity, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose. This journey has changed my life in ways I will forever be grateful for. Thank you, The Dawn. You gave me my life back.

Life-Changing Experience — Deep Recovery, Not Just Detox The Dawn isn’t just a rehab — it’s a place where real transformation happens if you’re willing to do the work. I came in broken, full of shame, and disconnected from myself. What I found here was structure, safety, and a team that truly understands addiction as a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. Helen, the Clinical Director, runs the program with depth and integrity. She doesn’t sugarcoat things, but her insight and compassion are what make the process real. She has an incredible ability to connect your story to the underlying trauma and patterns that keep you stuck — and to guide you toward real change. The clinical program is world-class: evidence-based therapy combined with mindfulness, community, and accountability. Group sessions were intense but healing, and the staff genuinely care — they see you as a person, not a problem. I left The Dawn with a foundation for long-term recovery, not just sobriety. It gave me back a sense of purpose and hope I didn’t think I’d find again. If you’re serious about recovery, come here with an open heart. The work isn’t easy, but it’s worth it.

My friend came to The Dawn about 2 months ago for treatment for depression and anxiety, and I’ve seen such a difference in her since then. The care and support she has received there have been incredible. The support team is not only professional but also very kind and encouraging. Hearing how much the team makes her feel understood and supported has been really comforting as I watched her slowly regain her strength. Would recommend this place for those whose friends and families are seeking help and support.

Choosing to go to The Dawn was the best decision I’ve ever made for myself. Before coming here, I felt completely stuck, weighed down by old patterns, and unsure if true healing was even possible. The Dawn didn’t just help me through my struggles — they transformed my entire perspective on life. From the moment I arrived, I felt cared for, supported, and safe. The facility itself is incredible — it’s a peaceful and beautiful environment that naturally allows you to slow down, reflect, and focus on healing. Everything from the surroundings to the daily structure feels intentional and supportive of recovery. But what makes The Dawn truly special is the people. The staff are some of the most compassionate, understanding, and dedicated individuals I’ve ever met. They don’t just “do their jobs” — they genuinely care about you as a person, and that makes all the difference when you’re trying to heal. I also have to mention my therapist, Alan. He has been nothing short of amazing. His guidance, wisdom, and patience helped me uncover so much about myself and pushed me to grow in ways I didn’t think I was capable of. He created a space where I felt safe to be vulnerable, and through his support, I found clarity, strength, and real tools to build a better life. The Dawn gave me more than sobriety or healing from specific struggles — they gave me myself back. I left with hope, self-compassion, and a deep belief that change is possible. I can’t thank The Dawn enough for everything they’ve given me. This place truly changes lives, and it has absolutely changed mine.

This is a continuation of my review - one year on from when I joined The Dawn and at one year sober, one day at a time. I remain very grateful to all the staff at The Dawn and in truth I sometimes rather miss the tranquility of the place, the friendliness, the myriad of things to do, but life carries on and luckily for me, The Dawn has allowed me to carry on with life, sober and certainly more at peace than I was before. Thank you The Dawn. I had a great experience at The Dawn and am very grateful for all the support and care I got. This hasn't been my first rehab, but undoubtedly it was the best. The staff are amazing - from the Support team, to the fitness team and of course the counsellors - but all of them play a part in welcoming you, making you feel at home and getting you back on track. The experience isn't as rigid as some of the UK rehabs I have been to but the outcome is significantly better. There is a lot of focus on CBT - and I now realise that unless I change my thinking, I will always go back to the hell that is addiction. I will be forever grateful to The Dawn - a fantastic rehab with excellent facilities, lovely people and a great atmosphere.

I had the most beautiful and grounded intake experience with Alex Holland from The Dawn. He held space for me in a way that was rare—genuinely present, kind, and truly listening to *who I am* and what I needed. I’ve spoken to so many people over the years about treatment, and this was different. Alex didn’t rush or push anything. He was thoughtful, transparent, and answered every question with care. He gave me insight into the Bespoke and Signature programs, helped me feel into what would be best for my nervous system, and made me feel *seen* as a neurodivergent woman in a healing season. It’s rare to feel safe during intake calls, but Alex offered something more—he reminded me of what’s possible when someone simply listens. This was more than a consultation; it was a point of healing. Thank you, Alex. I hope this review helps others find their way to The Dawn, because you truly are the kind of person people need at the beginning of this path. With gratitude, Anslyn

When looking for a place to heal the soul I read about The Dawn and felt it too good to be true. Do they give you what they promise? Is the staff able to take care of major mental health and addiction problems? Do they speak my language in Thailand? Is it worth the long trip? Well, asked and answered and I can tell you with clarity that the environment is the beginning of calm. The professional staff clearly wanted what every client should have been wanting for themselves and they make every effort to help people achieve that. And, being a bit of a foodie who hates being anywhere without good food, i can also verify that the food was both beautiful…the managing owner insists on it…and delicious. Honestly, The Dawn might be far away, but it was just what heals the mind, spirit and body.

The Dawn Fifty years of pain, twenty years of alcohol and drug abuse, six psychologists, four psychiatrists, three therapists, ten rehabs, a few nights in the lock-up, three overdoses and one attempt of the unthinkable. The end was nigh. I decided I had to get out of Sydney but I didn’t know where to go, but for some reason I started googling wellness and health retreats in Thailand. One caught my eye out of many so I reached out and rang The Dawn Admissions, advising I would get a call from the clinical director within the next day or so. Not 24-hours later I received a phone call from the director (Helen Wells), taking time to understand I was in big trouble and needed immediate support. Helen evaluated my situation. My condition was so poor and to this day I am convinced she kept me alive until it was time for me to travel to Thailand. I was so frozen in my own misery and anxiety that for me it took a herculean effort just to get to Chang Mai. When I got off the plane a lady from the support team picked me up and talked to me and set my mind at ease. Suddenly an easy kind of feeling came over me, hard to explain but tranquility, peace, placidity, could it be spiritual. I am a nonbeliever, drink, smoke, rugby, stubborn, quick to judge, impatient (sometimes). So, WTF just happened. That night, my first night at The Dawn I slept for the first night in years. I woke up crying and I can’t explain. Everything just felt right as if a reset button was pressed. One instrumental cog in this journey is Helen. I think maybe the fact that I wasn’t pushed to go to Thailand immediately gave me trust. I am not a stupid person (far from it) and with that and my mistrust of everyone makes me literally second guess everything. So, for me to go and hand over my life to someone was a huge-feat in itself. I started repairing and didn’t even know it yet. Helen was the first person out of all the so-called professionals that I had met in the last decade and a half to realize I had been completely misdiagnosed. A personalised program was devised and tailormade to my needs. 1. Group therapy sessions (imperative, knowledgeable and extremely professionally handled) 2. Yoga (enjoyed) 3. Sound Bowls (just watch the geckos on the ceiling- however soothing) 4. Gym Sessons (loved) 5. Pool Sessions (loved) 6. One-on-ones (paramount and incredible) 7. Food (pretty good) 8. Support Staff (nothing was too hard for them to help you with) 9. Sunday Excursions (Great Fun) ‘ 10. Nurses (competent) 11. Dawn Psychiatrist (educated at Harvard – knew what he was talking about) 12. Garden and Surroundings (always kept clean and tidy- surroundings were tranquil with a river flowing by – pretty good serenity) 13. Rooms (were good – you are not there for a holiday) I spent about four months there. I am still working on myself now but that big black dark cloud that loomed over me has lifted. Thank you, Helen for saving my life. Thank you to The Dawn and all the support people, nurses and therapists. If anyone is tossing up or can’t make their mind up where to go and are in the position of no hope, give The Dawn a call. Thanks, Ben

I’m writing this review on the final day of my second one-month stay at The Dawn, and I can only describe both of my experiences here as fantastic and life-saving. If you're considering a residential treatment facility, I strongly recommend reaching out — just make an enquiry and see for yourself the brilliant, holistic program they offer. I first came to The Dawn in April 2024, in the depths of addiction and the mental health issues that came with it. After my initial stay, I returned home clean and went on to live an awesome and fulfilling life for nine months. Unfortunately, a series of significant life events triggered a return to addictive behaviours. But thanks to the strength, knowledge, and tools I had gained from my first time at The Dawn, I was able to hit the brakes early and return — this time in a very different, much stronger place. During my second stay, my counsellor and I quickly identified what felt like the missing piece of the puzzle. I focused all my energy on that work, fully engaging with the facilities and the wide range of activities and practices that support every core aspect of the program. I’m leaving this stay feeling strong, confident, and empowered. The opportunities are here — and you truly get out what you put in. From start to finish, the staff at The Dawn are incredible people who want nothing but the best for every client. Their ethos of care, compassion, and friendliness is all-encompassing — from the cleaning staff and security guards to the counsellors, support team, admissions staff, chefs, fitness and yoga instructors, massage therapists, and the nursing team. Everyone plays a role in creating a deeply supportive environment. And then there are the clients. Across both my stays, I’ve met some of the most amazing, inspiring people I’ve ever known — many of whom I’m still in touch with and plan to stay connected to. The level of support and solidarity within the group was unlike anything I’ve experienced before. We came from different backgrounds with different struggles, but we all shared the same goal: to become the best versions of ourselves. As I now move into the next chapter of my recovery, I can’t thank The Dawn enough. My family and I will be forever grateful. Keep up the amazing work!

Last year, I reached out to The Dawn out of desperation. A close friend of mine was battling alcohol addiction and depression, and I was terrified of losing him. Today, he’s been sober for a full year. His mind is clearer, his spirit is stronger, and he’s back at work, rebuilding his life. I can’t thank The Dawn and their team enough. They didn’t just help him heal—they gave him a second chance. For that, I’ll be forever grateful.

The Dawn was life-changing. I arrived burned out, numb, and emotionally exhausted. What I found was not just a treatment center, but a place where deep healing happens. The therapists are exceptional—each brought something unique, and I always felt safe, seen, and genuinely cared for. From trauma therapy and EMDR to mindfulness, fitness, and even laughter-filled moments over great food, the experience was holistic in every sense. It’s not a quick fix. It’s hard work, but it’s real work. And the entire team—support staff, nurses, housekeeping, even the café crew—were part of my journey. This place gave me the tools, space, and human connection I didn’t know I needed. If you’re ready to face yourself and heal truly, The Dawn is where you begin.

I was hesitant to write this, but I wanted to share about my friend who completed treatment for depression at The Dawn. The staff treated her with respect from day one and of course, the place was quite relaxing. But what I really appreciated was that they didn't just give her a bunch of pills and send her on her way. The therapists helped her develop practical coping strategies that actually worked and she still uses them months later! She came back with a renewed sense of hope I hadn't seen in years. If someone you care about is struggling, this place might be just what they need.

It has been an amazing experience. The facility and staff are really welcoming. The sense of community they promote is really powerful. Participation in all of the groups, activities and individual sessions will ensure that you get the most out of your stay. Relapse prevention for both substance use and mental health will greatly support your transition back to the 'real world'. I cant describe the entire experience except that it is amazing and can be life changing.

I arrived at The Dawn with many problems and very scared, there I was greeted by a welcoming and efficient team. During my stay there, I had access to trained professionals who helped me face all the battles against depression and anxiety. The support team, always very attentive to my needs, always ready to help me and to serve me. The therapists are fantastic and everyone, including those who did not attend me directly, was always willing to help. The environment was calm, full of peace, with holistic and physical activities that helped my mental health a lot. The meals, always balanced and delicious, were essential to end my eating disorder. I met a family there, not only of the employees, but also of the customers who were with me on this journey. I leave here very calm, knowing that today I achieved many positive changes thanks to The Dawn

I had a short stay here to work on my mental health. Dawn was a good place to do so, as they separate substance abuse and mental health in therapy groups. . I found the program solid. I especially enjoyed the relapse prevention group, which is very useful to prepare for an ongoing good mental health. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Dawn; excellent support staff, knowledgeable therapists and a good holistic program. Food was great, very tasty.

A relative recently stayed for an extended period and I had the chance to visit a couple of times. The location is great - close enough to the city and other attractions for excursions but also far enough away to allow for some peace and quiet. The setting is very pleasant on the river and the grounds are well taken care of. Plenty of amenities like swimming pool, gym, yoga etc. The rooms are comfortable, similar to a nice hotel in the city. The clientele seems to be from around the world, plenty of Thais and “farang” alike. The staff are really what make The Dawn stand out. The nurses are more than a little understanding and patient. The support staff from what I could gather have all mostly been through various addiction issues and thus can relate to the clients. I met with Alex a couple times and she was great with providing a clear picture as to the progress that was being made without sugarcoating it. She also sent regular email updates to myself and other members of my family. Markus was excellent helping with my initial inquiry, spending a couple hours speaking with me over the course of a few phone calls. Overall very happy with The Dawn. It’s great to see that this kind of facility is available in Thailand. If you’re considering a stay for yourself or a family member, I would highly recommend.

The Dawn was there for me at a very dark time in my life, and I'm so glad I chose to go. I came for severe work burnout and anxiety and immediately felt understood, safe, and hopeful. They provided a standard of care I could not find in my home country. I planned for a 2 week stay but stayed 5 in the end, as the program was helping a lot. I benefited immensely from all elements of their program: the counseling, group therapy, wellness and massage, holistic elements, great healthy food, and the riverside resort atmosphere. My fellow guests felt the same and were extremely happy with their decision to be at the Dawn. Most extended their stays after arriving. I'm so grateful to the amazing staff here who took great care of me and gave me exactly what I needed to get back on track with my burnout and mental health.

Struggling with mental health and addiction while living on a vacation island in Thailand isn't fun at all. I’d never felt properly diagnosed, and my anxiety was creeping into every corner of my life, especially work. Things were getting harder to manage. After diving into some online research, I found The Dawn. I reached out, and Nathalie from the admissions team got in touch right away. She explained everything to me with patience, answering every one of my (many!) questions. Deciding to spend a month there was a big choice—work commitments meant I couldn’t stay longer—but looking back, it turned out to be one of the BEST decisions I’ve ever made for my well-being. Thank you very much to the Dawn!!! From the moment I arrived in Chiang Mai, the warm and welcoming staff made everything so smooth. I was greeted at the airport and driven to The Dawn, where I got a full tour of the grounds: the relaxing pool, a spacious gym and wellness center, a little convenience store, the sleek library, meeting rooms, and a gorgeous dining area overlooking the river. After settling into my cozy room, I had time to relax before meeting the rest of the team and my peers. The team at The Dawn is incredible—professional, compassionate, and always there when you need them. The support staff were ready to listen and hold space for me, my therapist Albert was not only extremely knowledgeable but truly passionate, and the doctors and nurses were top-notch. Then, there’s the fantastic gym team, the skilled massage therapists, and the people working behind the scenes—cooking delicious meals, maintaining the beautiful grounds, and keeping the whole place running smoothly. You’ll meet peers from all over the world who truly understand your struggles. The treatment blends Western and Eastern approaches, giving you a holistic path to healing. Each day is packed with group sessions (where you gain valuable insights from peers), individual counseling, educational sessions on psychology, fitness classes (like yoga, pilates, gym workouts, walks, aqua fitness, pickleball, zumba), meditation, sound bowl sessions, and evening time for journaling, exploring emotions, and practicing gratitude and CBT. If you’re struggling, don’t hesitate to ask for help. It’s not easy to face your fears and deepest, darkest secrets, but the relief that comes with shedding that weight is worth it. Don’t expect to walk out fully “healed”—this is real work, and it requires vulnerability. But with the incredible team at The Dawn guiding you, you’ll be equipped with tools that, if you continue to use them, can set you on the path to your best self for the future. Just remember: from dusk till dawn, take it one day at a time, one step at a time.

The Dawn offered me a place of solace and safety at a very dark time. Life had become very hard and bleak. I didn’t really know what exactly was wrong with me but I felt myself crumbling away inside. I wasn’t sure what to do. I came to The Dawn in December 2021 for treatment of symptoms from burnout and generalized anxiety disorder that either resulted from this or contributed to it. That’s the nice way to say I wasn’t sure I wanted to live anymore. Life had become so painful and hard. My plan was to stay for 2 weeks but I instead stayed for 6, finding my wellness and healing was not going to be a super-quick, 2-week fix. I found there at The Dawn counselors with compassion, knowledge and wisdom who helped me get ahold of issues and find the strength and direction within to make life-changing decisions. I felt fully supported by the staff and very comfortable in the surroundings and facilities. I had looked for Western treatment and not found what I wanted or thought would help. The Dawn offers—as they say—an East meets West approach. There were individual counseling sessions, psych Ed and groups sessions as well as yoga, fitness, mindfulness, meditation classes and more. The food was so fresh and helped support my goals for improved self care. And I saw they were able to cater to specific dietary needs too. I was there with clients from around the world—all of us in search of our healing. Today, years later, I can say what I learned and experienced at The Dawn laid the foundation for my wellness journey. They gave me the tools and guidance which I still use today and every day. If you are looking for a top-notch facility to find a new way to live that feels possible, where you can learn to create the life you want while being supported mentally, physically—as a whole person (not just a patient needing medications)—consider The Dawn. 6 weeks here changed my life by putting me on the path for the change I so desperately wanted and needed. You are not alone. There is hope. It’s never too late.

I arrived at the Dawn on June 20. The admission was swift and the communication from Nathalie was excellent. My Focal Therapist John has years of experience is in recovery himself, relates very well to clients. JOHN is excellent. The support staff is outstanding. The medical team are highly professional. The rehab has excellent infrastructure and food. There is a gym, swimming pool, wellness center, convenience store. The fitness and massage team is very professional. Overall I would certainly recommend this rehab to other people with mental health and addiction issues.

Coming from the Nice France I was quite nervous about what to expect from a completely different culture. However, my anxiety was quickly eased by the kind staff and the peaceful environment at The Dawn. I felt welcomed and respected for my background. Dealing with depression, I constatly felt overwhelmed that made everyday tasks seem too heavy. Here is where I also tried for the first time, the TMS treatment. I was skeptical about it. On my first session, it felt strange and I wasn't sure what to expect afterwards. Yet, it turned out to be the turning point. It has been a profound healing experience, blending this modern treatment with psychotherapy and holistic exercises. I'm grateful for the transformative journey and the compassionate support I received, which helped mend not just myself, but my family too. Highly recommend!

Seeking help for my addiction was one of the toughest decisions I've ever made. The process, especially during detox, was quite a challenge. I actually doubted my ability to continue. Luckily the care and support from The Dawn which was 24/7, helped me push through. The approach here goes beyond conventional therapy. I did wellness activities that helped distract me from the pains of withdrawal. Muay Thai and the sound baths was quite interesting and it also started me on this path to taking care of myself. I am grateful for the personalised support I received, even from before I arrived. It won’t be easy, it’ll be hard and I hope to God I won’t stumble again. But I am making the most of this second chance in life.

I arrived at the dawn just in time I was suffering from complex PTSD Trauma and anxiety after suffering from domistic abuse For four decades I had left a long marriage And was in a paralyzed state when I arrived. I thank the dawn for helping me to make sense of what how and why my life exsploded The way it did they have given me the tools to Return to the UK and rebuild even though I still have a long way to go . I thank everybody at the dawn for everything they have done for me you are amazing people and I will miss you all so much 😘❤️ x x 🙏🌈 Jane catchpole This is my 2nd time at the dawn, I came back after being on a long journey of discovery since I left in 2021 3years ago, the Dawn gave me a chance to find out what had taken me on such a painful childhood life into the painful Adult life I have endured for so long . It has been like an archaeological dig of self discovery and the therapists here are magicians 💫trust me . The whole team from support staff, nurses and everyone who works here are the kindest souls who really care about their clients 100% . My return was to discover more about myself and to go a little further to become the person I was supposed to be and I knew that there is only the Dawn I trust to do this for me , and it feels like coming home 🏠 this is a special place the grounds are so tranquil the plants and wildlife are beautiful, the river to watch change daily I couldn’t get this level of treatment in the uk And the food is amazing too 😋. The yoga 🧘 with apple and working out 🏋️ in the very modern gym and all the staff here are great they are so enthusiastic about helping clients to get the best out of themselves and the group activities are great fun . I truly love the Dawn and will never forget what they have done for me to aid my recovery ❤️‍🩹 and I know I can take all the new skills in my toolbox 🧰as well as new friends. Wow. I couldn't recommend The Dawn enough. I had exhausted all options in my home country and started to look abroad. From the moment I reached out I could tell that the staff really took pride in what they did. My expectations were high and I was not disappointed when I arrived. The rooms were lovely, the grounds were stunning, the clinical and non-clinical staff were amazing and THE FOOD... my gosh the food was outstanding. The mixture of individual and group therapy, coupled with psychoeducational sessions was the perfect blend for me and I predict would be for many others aswell. I encourage anyone going through struggles with addiction and/or mental health issues to make contact with the staff and see for yourself.

Overall, my experience exceeded my expectations and provided me with a large amount of tools, resources, education, and understanding into SUD, CBT, MBI and things that were specific in contributing to addiction and mental health problems. I've also gained a surplus in my awareness, self-compassion, understanding, confidence, and belief that I will continue to get better and a better, healthier life is possible

A family friend of mine recently completed a 10-week program at The Dawn from March to May 2024. Since finishing the program, her mental health has significantly improved. She has regained her self-confidence and is now actively participating in family life again. The counsellors were exceptionally skilled and attentive, tailoring the treatment process to her specific needs. I see her as a fully changed woman, starting to live her life again with joy and happiness.

During my time here I have gained the insight to address my mental health issues. I arrived thinking I was depressed and that my anxiety was under control. I see now that anxiety and burnout played a much bigger role than I realized. I was told that you will get out what you put in' and I fully agree with that. I can't say what specifically caused a shift, but I participated in the programs and very quickly started noticing changes. My therapist, John, was extremely knowledgeable and was able to identify issues I had no idea were causing me problems. I felt heard and understood and he has really helped me reclaim my life. He provided handouts and videos and books to help me understand what was going on, and more importantly, how to manage this in the future. This was my first time participating in peer groups, and as uncomfortable as they were at times, they were valuable. The facilitators provided little pearls of wisdom' during almost every session that will stick with me. The holistic and fitness sessions helped me feel a sense of peace for the first time in a very long time. The MBI sessions with Amanda were very beneficial. She has a gift that she is generously sharing with the clients here. I am leaving feeling like I have the tools to navigate life.

As someone who has a stake in The Dawn, I have been able to see the excellent service they provide to their clients. They offer a range of treatments that focus on the well-being of each person. Along with these treatments, The Dawn also offers activities like holistic sessions, outings, and wellness programs. The fact that they offer a variety of activities and care shows that they truly care about the people who come for treatment. It's clear that these extra services are appreciated by those who are receiving treatment. I believe that the different services and activities provided by The Dawn are really helpful for their clients and make their treatment experience more complete.

I visited The Dawn for a family visit to see my loved one during the Thai New Year (Songkran) celebrations. I had the opportunity to experience The Dawn's exceptional care and services firsthand. The team at The Dawn is incredibly professional and dedicated to providing the highest quality of care and safety for our loved ones during their recovery journey. The tranquil setting of the property, comfortable rooms, and diverse food options all contribute to a welcoming and supportive environment for clients. It is evident that the staff at The Dawn pays attention to every detail, ensuring that clients feel cared for and valued, even during special events and seasons. Overall, my experience at The Dawn was truly positive, and I have full confidence in recommending this facility to others seeking a reputable and compassionate rehabilitation center.

She has regained control over her emotions and successfully returned to work. The facility itself is clean and beautiful, creating a positive and conducive environment. The staff members are highly professional and helpful, contributing to the overall positive experience. The variety and deliciousness of the food provided also added to her satisfaction. In particular, the special dinner was truly memorable. A heartfelt thanks to The Dawn Team for their dedicated support in helping my sister on her journey to a better quality of life.

I have spent 4 weeks a the Dawn. I came here with the determination that this would be a life changer for me and it has. All the clinicians and staffs at the Dawn were major parts of getting myself back on track. They were very professional and patient with me and I know that was not easy given my situation. Now I am ready to get back home knowing it will be hard but I am confident that I now have the tools and the mindset to overcome the challenges I will face. Thank you for everything. 🙂

Thailand is one of the most desirable destinations for recovery rehabs, and there are many options to choose from. If you are looking for a rehab in North Thailand (a bit cooler weather), I strongly recommend The Dawn for 2 main reasons: 1: The clinical team (therapists & counsellors), aside from having in-depth knowledge & experience in treating a range of mental health issues, are also equipped with the essential x-factor of caring. Trust me, it is not easy to find professionals who truly care about clients. 2: All the support workers are very client-oriented, like in a 5 star hotel, and often get out of their way to assist clients in a wide range of issues & requests. I also found the medical team (nurse department - English speaking Thai employees) being sensitive & helpful, the physical & holistic instructors being very skilled & flexible, and the operational employees (housekeeping & drivers) being kind & cooperative. I am thankful for my experience at The Dawn, and I wish the best to all the people with mental health struggles (and I can assure you that recovery is possible 💕).

I had nowhere to go, and was desperately looking for some help!! I found The Dawn, Chiangmai, sent an email, and I had a very friendly gentleman called Markus call me back. He instantly put me at ease and organised everything from dates to flights to arrival. As soon as I arrived I was greeted by the most friendliest of staff, shown round and settled in. All very daunting but was soon made to feel welcome by the staff and my peers. Great accommodation, fantastic food, and an amazing holistic side to treatment. This place has literally changed my life, I was at rock bottom and in the time I’ve been here, with the aid of groups therapy and 1:1 sessions with my councillor, I have found a new lease of life, I confronted my mental health issues and alcohol addiction and am leaving tomorrow, full of excitement. I cannot recommend this place enough if literally saved my life!!

Half way through a 2 month program, quite possibly the best descision I have ever made. Have gone from joyless and bitter to feeling the life come back into me. Suffered deeply from insomnia, bouts of very low mood and alcohol misuse. The Dawn has been faultless and so proffesional with this journey that I am deeply grateful. I now feel hopeful that I will carry home these new learnings/ tools and behaviours and provided I maintain vigilance I believe that I will re enter life with new hope and spirit. My tip is to fully immerse yourself in the programme, follow the science and be as open and honest as you can. Another upside is that you meet the coolest people in rehab. WSTR Australia/NewZealand.

I had a visit at The Dawn that was lead by awesome Nathalie who was an absolute pleasure to talk to and Tom, a therapist I spoke to as well. They have a very strong team, and very friendly. From the first impression, I can see how attentive and knowledgeable they are. The place is located in such a beautiful area, it’s quite spacious with so much greenery. I spent an hour there and felt an instant calming ambience. They’re very well equipped with everything that you would need. They have great spaces for you to relax, or do yoga and other activities. A nice clean pool and it’s very well organized. Also the rooms are perfect, they’re spacious with nice balconies and enough space to put all your belongings 🙏 Really great place to find peace and the full support you need from the right people. Thank you so much for having me. 🙏

My time at The Dawn has got my life back on track in so many ways and I am so thankful for the time there . Since leaving I am missing the staff, people, experiences , learning opportunities and the beautiful swimming pool where we would all hang out and talk. Very therapeutic! I wish I could go back at least once every six months for a couple of weeks stay. There were small challenges but together we overcome them. The facilities are amazing and the staff could not be more friendly, caring and helpful. They want the best for you. Make sure you are prepared when packing to stay there as it is not a shopping holiday. You need to be stocked up on personal items e.g toiletries, hair products, favourite snacks, clothing, shoes. I forgot my sunglasses! You can order these in but it is best to have them with you already. I made life long friends there from all over the world which I intend to visit in the future. My self esteem and confidence have quadrupled. On my arrival a staff member gave me hugs and held my hand all the way from the airport to The Dawn. I really needed that and appreciated it so much. After group and individual counseling I know what I have to continue to work on and why I ended up having to get help. If you have the opportunity to go grab it with both hands and make the most of your time there. Give it 100% and you will reap the rewards!

I received some free phone consultation from the Dawn, specifically Viktor, and he was very helpful and caring. It was like talking to someone who genuinely wants to help you. The DAWN gave my mother and I a NEW LIFE! My mom and I have had bipolar disorder and anxiety for a long time. My life has been tormented by my mother's temper, anger, frustration, and violence. I have been in this condition for 38 years until last year my mother was admitted to the dawn for 3 months of treatment. After finishing the course, I got a new mother and my life has changed in great ways. My mother has a much better emotional development, not easily angered, not easily irritated, reasonable and sensible. I am happy living with my mother. A feeling of understanding that I have never experienced since I was born. I never thought that mental health would have such an impact on our lives. Without the dawn, I wouldn't be able to spend as much fun with my mom as I do today. Before my mother was admitted to psychiatric treatment at the dawn, I thought my mother probably wouldn't have changed much. Due to her advanced age and mental problems for a long time, so I wasn't expecting much. And the results came back beyond expectations, thank you to all the staff at the dawn for making such a big difference for my mother.. You guys are great! Words of gratitude may not be enough. For anyone with emotional and bipolar problems, I highly recommend you to try treatment at the dawn and you will experience the inner joy that you have never felt before in your life!

I stayed at the Dawn for eight weeks and it was a lovely experience, albiet a bit boring towards the end. It's a good place to go for detoxing, there aren't any options for at least 5km around the area and you can't go offsite unless you've been there for at least five weeks (and only for three hours). I would recommend people go for 28 days before thinking about extending, as the program gets quite repetitive towards the end. They have a shop onsite where you can purchase cigarettes, chips, smoothies and chocolates. I wish they had more activities planned in the afternoon. Their fitness, yoga and holistic classes are subpar. The primary way to socialize is in the smoking areas. The food gets a bit repetitive, but it's okay. They have psychiatrists onsite and online that can prescribe medication and they take good care of you when you're feeling unwell. Everyone has two sessions of counseling, massage and personal training per week. The support staff is quite strong, and can even order vapes for you online. The groups can get quite boring, and your experience really depends on who is there. My best advice is to try to make friends with the people there, it'll make the time go by faster.

A friend of mine from the US (where I am from) called me out of the blue after about two years of no real communication saying he really had to get out of the US for treatment. He said he was struggling with depression and subsequent addiction issues. He knew I was living in Bangkok and asked if I could help. Not sure what I could do for him I asked some Facebook friends about treatment centers here in Thailand and another friend recommended The Dawn. I'm glad she did. Jacob (not his real name) looked online at the facilities and agreed it was worth a shot. And, even with flight included, was a better financial options than onces he looked at in California. We thought it best I was not too close so I wouldn't be an 'escape plan' so Chiang Mai seemed another good reason. I visited with him only during intake (is that what it's called?) during which a gentleman named Markus was super helpful and accomodating throughout the admission process. I toured the grounds with Jacob before leaving and they were as beautiful as the few resorts I have been to here in Thailand. When he seemed comfortable, I left him. I didn't hear from him for almost eight weeks but when I did he seemed happier (and healthier if you can sound that way) and asked if he could stay at my place before his flight back to the States. Of course I agreed and we had a great dinner and a movie. This was back in August and since then he has called me every week to thank me. So I figured this review is a way to thank The Dawn for helping me help my friend.

I came across The Dawn while looking around for a rehab for a close friend. I had a chance to speak with Nathalie. She was the most kind and understanding. The admission process was seamless. During our site visit both Thai and English speaking staff were so friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. We regularly received the updates from the primary therapist. After 3 months at The Dawn, I have seen a wonderful transformation and would like to thank the team for their work. Keep up the great work!

Saved my life. Great program, great counsellors, beautiful site. This place is not for people who aren’t serious about getting help or committing to a life of recovery. For me, I came in broken and knew I had to let go of my old ways before I could get better. The dawn helped me with that. Contrary to many reviews that claim the 5 star reviewers are fake, I am a real client, 135 days clean because of the dawn.

With The Dawn's help, I've regained my confidence, and I couldn't be happier with the results of my therapy. The treatment programme at The Dawn was tailored to my unique needs as part of my individualised treatment plan. The first time I visited The Dawn, I received kindness and compassion from the entire team. And everyone treated you as if you were a member of their family. Throughout the treatment, the counselling sessions provided by the clinical team are of the highest quality. Also, The Dawn has an onsite nursing station where you can access medical assistance 24/7 from the highly-skilled nursing team. Moreover, there is nothing but praise for the restaurant's cuisine. I need to give a big compliment to all the kitchen crew who provide us with the fantastic menu options each day. All the crew here work tirelessly to make your recovery their first concern. The support team is available around the clock to answer any questions you may have. The gym sessions were incredibly encouraging and exciting, despite being outside of your comfort zone. The big benefit here is that all residents get to go on once-in-a-lifetime adventures every week. I truly enjoyed my weekly excursions and cultural explorations in this land of smiles. I loved spending therapeutic and healing time chatting with the group of people who always support me in this tranquil and peaceful setting by the river. This makes my whole time at The Dawn very meaningful and memorable. Now, I left feeling assured and happy. And I am thankful to everyone at The Dawn. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, I strongly suggest you go to The Dawn.

My wife was there for therapy for about 2 months at the beginning of this year. So far, this has also proven to be quite successful. We were very happy about the success of the therapy and would have given it a 5-star rating. However, we were also told at the time that telephone follow-up was a crucial part of the therapy. Therefore, she was to be called by her therapist every week at the beginning and later at somewhat longer intervals. Unfortunately, this telephone follow-up was discontinued by "The Dawn" a few weeks ago. Even after several inquiries we did not receive any explanation. Although we have been promised again and again for about 3 weeks by the responsible Admission Manager that our inquiries would be forwarded to the responsible office and that a call back would be made from there, unfortunately such a call back has not yet been made. It is not possible to contact the responsible person directly, as we are not given any contact details and there is no reply from the ones we know. We now consider the long-term success of the therapy to be in great danger. We have been strongly advised of the importance of the now prematurely discontinued telephone aftercare by "The Dawn". We are now very disappointed about this. Apparently they have problems with the Thai speaking team. At least there is a notice on the Thai language website that new Thai speaking patients cannot be accepted at this time. If this leads to the fact that already started and already paid therapies are simply discontinued without comment, this facility can of course no longer be recommended, despite initially great success. Therefore, for the time being, I have to give it a bad rating. However, should "The Dawn" find a solution, I will gladly change my rating again. Until then, unfortunately, only 2 stars. Addition: The problems could be solved in the meantime. I have therefore changed my initial rating to 4 stars.

I do not know how I made it on to the plane to get there, but it was the best thing I have ever done. The staff are amazing, the councellers are 5 star. I was very ill when I arrived but left a new person. Tony was my counceller and he really went above and beyond. Its hard work here but you get out if it what you put in to it. I went for mental health and didn't know what to expect but I got everything. I'm only giving 4 stars as the food was so so. I would highly recommend this place. You will hate it to start with but leave loving it

The Dawn Rehab literally transformed the direction of my life in extraordinary ways. I couldn’t understand why no matter how hard I tried to make my life work I seemed to hit roadblocks. Thanks to my allocated therapist unresolved complex trauma was identified in my first counselling session. I’m a mental health practitioner myself and I assumed my lack of success and achievement was due to a lack of effort on my part. This is how insidious trauma is on our internal and external model of the world. Thanks to The Dawn’s entire team my 1 month stay put me on the road to recovery. 3 years later and my life continues to change in positive ways and has rippled into my professional work with clients needing extra support on their trauma recovery journey. I highly recommend The Dawn as your first step to finally leaving your painful past behind you.

It gives me so much pleasure to add my review of this wonderful place. From the day I googled and found the Dawn, my son and I have had a very good and comforting experience. Being in Botswana and in the middle of the pandemic, I needed a place where my son would not only get the help he needed for his depression, but I also wanted to be sure it would be provided with care and empathy. Thank you everyone at the Dawn, especially Paul, who handheld us through the visa and travel procedures and listened patiently to our questions. The pre counselling therapy made my son and myself at ease . Thank you so much the Dawn for making our healing experience so comfortable. I remain forever grateful, and even as I am anxious of the recovery period after rehabilitation, I am confident knowing that the after care programme will continue. Thank you. Sophie … Botswana

Having cared for my father until his death and then suffering a relationship breakdown all within a few months of each other I turned to alcohol and drugs putting myself into a horrible spiral. A close friend found The Dawn and put me in touch with them. They supported me from the very beginning in the UK and even helped with a court case I had for drink driving. They facilitated the travel and quarantine to Thailand as this was during the height of Covid and it couldn't have gone any smoother. Once at The Dawn I was made very welcome and the facilities were brilliant. The gym is very modern with great PT's who are super friendly and push you. The food was AMAZING and I still miss it. The support staff were really friendly and approachable and SUPER helpful. The absolute highlight and reason for the 5 star review was the excellent councilling and group therapy sessions. They really helped me figure out the root causes of my mental health issues and drug and alcohol abuse problems. This was truly life saving and I cannot thank the whole team enough. Even now I am still doing aftercare sessions with the Dawn online which has been a huge help in transitioning back to everyday life. Finally you will not find this level of care for the price ANYWHERE else and I strongly recommend anyone who is dealing with similar issues to get in contact. Thank you so much The Dawn!

I chose the Dawn for a 2 week mental health reset and had an excellent experience. The entire process was smooth, easy and well explained. The best parts of my experience were; 1. The staff. Every single member of the team was deeply caring, proactive and clearly concerned with my best interests. 2. The group experience and supportive environment with my fellow guests. It was such a powerful experience to spend 2 solid weeks in such a healing and supportive environment.

I partook in a 3 month stay in primary treatment at the Dawn. With outstanding care before arriving, and brilliant aftercare, it’s fair to say that this treatment facility saved my life. I travelled during covid, and received 24 hour support throughout my time in quarantine and even before hand in the UK, way before my flight. After battling the UK mental health system for 7 years, I received the care and therapy I’d always needed. It is concentrated help, with a serene and tropical environment. With a balanced sector in addiction, mental health and trauma, I cannot recommend this place enough. THANK YOU THE DAWN!

My daughter was diagnosed with bpd when she was just 17, after struggling with her mental health since the age of 12, after many many suicide attempts, drug addiction, and frankly inadequate “help” in the uk, she was discharged by adult mental health services at 20, when she was at her absolute lowest point, they discharged her because she used drugs as her coping mechanism instead of cutting and we were told this was “her choice “. But if she had carried on cutting they would of continued to treat her! We were told about The Dawn, and contacted them. I spoke with Craig and explained the situation we were in and my daughter spoke with Craig and outlined her illness and addiction. We asked lots of questions and asked how long they felt she needed to go for and were advised for the best outcome the full programme of 3 months would give her the best chance. I was worried because sometimes my daughter would shut down and not be open to help but Craig reassured me that as long as “ the door” was open even a crack they could get their foot in and help her. Because of covid restrictions it proved quite difficult getting her out there, but The Dawn offer remote therapy via Skype, which proved invaluable, not only did it give my daughter a chance to meet her therapists, she began to see a light at the end of the tunnel. My daughter left for the Dawn on 03/01/2021, she had to quarantine in Bangkok for 15 days, which was very daunting, as she does not cope well on her own, but the 24 hour support offered from the team at the Dawn was exceptional, she continued with group and individual therapy sessions, yoga classes and even Thai boxing classes. By the time she reached The Dawn she felt like she was meeting up with friends. She’s still at the beginning of this journey, but the difference I have seen in her so far is beyond anything I had even hoped for. Obviously she is not “cured” but for the first time she has hope. The support from the staff and her peers has actually made her begin to believe she can come out of the darkness and live the life she deserves. I can’t thank Craig and the team enough for looking after her while she is so far away, and I am now very hopeful for her future.

Going to this rehab was more or less just a choice of a path on my journey. Fortunately after paying close attention to myself and my peers I learned the truth about myself over time and several more failures. In the end the truth is the world is suffering from vampirism. Either ignorant to the fact or cruely aware and using the same slave systems all down the ladder. Further I learned through the 12 step program the True nature of the Unseen which most call God. I will say my willingness to change began here for whatever reason. Either what I was seeing or feeling had finally , forced me to bend. Though I did break many times before realizing my need to change.

It’s difficult to read the reviews of the Dawn and correlate it with the experience I had. I attended in 2018 looking for mental health care after suffering the loss of my brother and father in quick succession. I had a traumatic childhood with significant emotional abuse which had been compounded by grief and trauma. The Dawn had its issues - I found the food substandard and the kitchen sanitation poor. Not much was done to accommodate my restricted diet but equally I didn’t make much of an issue of it either - I just ordered things I knew I could eat from the weekly shop. The therapy schedule was intensive and hard going, we were in groups from 7-7 with one day off doing activities a week. I was immediately put on the trauma track but also did work with those in the larger Dawn community who had issues with addiction etc. Having been an inpatient at private hospitals in the U.K. I feel the therapies, especially the group settings that were offered were comparable to those at the Priory in London. Some of the therapeutic staff were not as qualified as they could have been and there were definite safeguarding issues when it came to people being kicked out unfairly when the Dawn realised it was unable to help them with their issues, however for me it provided what I needed and I found the EMDR in particular extremely life changing when it came to coping with my fathers death. I think a lot of the success of my treatment hinged on the patients I found myself there with. We became very close very fast and it was a huge support to feel like I was amongst friends as I was addressing the issues I went there to deal with. Amazing support staff such as David Gale and Jared made the most difference, we became a community of sorts and I got the most benefit from the peer support sessions as opposed to those that were heavily structured or 1 on 1. (This was also my experience in London inpatient facilities where often seeing a psychiatrist was at an additional cost) I am aware that there have been a lot of staff changes since my stay which worries me as it was the staff who really made the difference between it being a helpful experience or not. Management definitely needs to take note of data protection - it wasn’t uncommon to see other people’s charts and documentation lying around offices during 1:1 sessions and they also need to have a much better system to really understand the issues patients are coming to them with. One person sadly died after being treated there the summer I was there and he should never have been accepted by the facility as they weren’t equipped to help him in the condition he was in. Equally they kicked out a very vulnerable lady during my stay with no concern for her wellbeing after she left the facility and was essentially stranded at the airport for the night, thousands of miles from home which caused huge distress for the rest of us left behind worrying about her and also left us worrying about the prospect of being kicked out ourselves if we were too “difficult”. I know some people for whom the Dawn made the world of difference. I know some who found it no better than what they’d have gained just spending a month away from the stresses of their normal lives and I know some for whom it was outright detrimental. I am aware that Tony Tan no longer works there which is concerning as he was one of the more highly qualified staff members. If they can tighten up the way they run the place and retain qualified staff for longer than they have been so far I can see how they could be considered an option when private mental health and addiction care isn’t available in the U.K. and USA. However, I’d not feel 100% comfortable recommending friends go there the way it is. Approach with caution and ask as many questions as you can about whether they are able to help with your issues before you commit if you are intending on seeking treatment as it’s definitely not a one size fits all facility and while cheaper than equivalent in the U.K., it’s still a large financial investment to make.

The Dawn has an incredible PTSD programme to offer. There is an Inpatient Programme which is very beneficial as in my country, they only have outpatatient programmes. A major benefit of an inpatient programme is that you have medical and psycological support during the PTSD treatment which is essential for your safety and well being. There is also EMDR which appears to approach psychological issues in an unusual way. It does not rely on talk therapy or medications. Instead, EMDR uses a patient's own rapid, rhythmic eye movements. These eye movements dampen the power of emotionally charged memories of past traumatic events and desensitize the emotions associated with the traumatic event. The uses of hypnosis in the psychotherapy of PTSD victims involve coupling access to the dissociated traumatic memories with positive restructuring of those memories. Hypnosis can be used to help patients face and bear a traumatic experience by embedding it in a new context, acknowledging helplessness during the event, and yet linking that experience with remoralizing memories as well as positive memories and a positive belief system. The clinical team as well as the support workers made a huge difference in my rehabatilation as they gave me 100% percent support during this difficut time in my life and i am very greatful for my whole experince during my stay at the dawn.

Incredible Wellness. I have been in residence at The Dawn Rehab, and have had amazing results after several weeks. I plan to extend my stay. My private room and villa are very comfortable. I feel safe, secure, and enjoy walking the tropical gardens daily. Highly recommend, I especially enjoy the fresh food, yoga, meditation, and program tailored to my specific needs. The staff and team are very professional and sincerely care about my recovery.
